Make your child’s room a friendly place

There’s no such thing as not being able to make a nice nursery or child’s bedroom, it’s all about how you go about it that matters. Doing up a room needn’t be a massive job, and you needn’t have to spend a lot of money on it either. Most of the time just a few touches here and there will convert even the most dullest of rooms in the most magical places for your children to spend time and sleep.

Why decorate at all?

Your child will probably spend more time in their bedroom than you will and you quite simply need to make it a bright and cheerful place to be; no child will be truly happy if they live in a dismal room. A child spends a lot of time in their room playing with their toys and the room is often gated to prevent them getting out if they are too young; make it a happy prison!

Decorating on a budget

Things needn’t cost a lot of money. You can get a tin of paint very cheap from the local superstores these days and you don’t always have to strip wallpaper etc to make it look good; simply paint over the top. Ask an expert about choosing colours when it comes to painting over wallpaper however.

  • Stickers. After you’ve painted, or indeed if you don’t want to paint, you could try some other decorating ideas like stickers perhaps. Wall stickers can make the child’s room look very bright and friendly and these needn’t cost much at all; and even better than that, most of them will come off easily as your child grows up or if you change your mind.
  • Wall and ceiling. Hanging characters, mobiles and other such things are also very popular and cost very little to buy. However, for safety reasons, when you get these sort of things please ensure that you attach them to the wall or ceiling correctly, or alternatively get a professional to do the job.
  • Toy boxes. Not only do they keep the room tidy, toy boxes can also brighten the place up a bit too. This is particularly so if you can get hold of some wooden boxes that can be painted with bright colours etc; however you must make sure that if they have lids on them that they are safe. If you can’t do this then there are often many plastic varieties out there that look just as good, or perhaps you can get some with your child’s favourite characters on them (or the ones you like for your child of course!)
