There is an alternative to all the mass produced plastic and metal toys on the market today, and that is wooden toys. The problem with wooden toys is that most people associate them with boring toys, or toys that lack imagination and fail to occupy children in the same way as they did perhaps 50 years ago. This is not true, and these days great efforts have been made to make wooden toys appealing to children like they once were.
Wooden toys for babies
Now there are an enormous range of wooden toys available to almost every age group of children out there, but probably the most popular are the wooden toys that are designed for very young children and toddlers. Babies also tend to love the tactile feel of wooden toys, they’re just more solid to grip and they don’t get extremely hot or cold depending on the weather like metal toys. Preschoolers
Preschool children often continue to enjoy playing with wooden toys because their preschool often have them available and pre-schools have to be quite particular about the type of toys they allow their children to play with for a variety of safety, ideological and ethical reasons. The type of wooden toys used in preschools will more than likely be things like toy houses and play figures, role-playing equipment like cooking, and more focused educational wooden toys like abacuses.
In fact it’s a pretty good guideline to follow suit with the type of toys your preschool, or even toddler group, has if you’re trying to think what to buy for your child as a present, or perhaps a gift for another child; if the preschool has it then it’s more than likely safe as well as well liked.
Overall
Just don’t rule out the possibility that your children might love to play with wooden toys. They may not have as much variety as many of the mass produced plastic toys on the market, but they’re certainly hard wearing and long lasting.
